Hi Everyone, it’s Kristy from Clearly Legal.
I wanted to talk with you today about what over 20 years of experience as legal support staff can, and should, look like, and why that experience matters when you are trusting someone with your legal support work.
With more than two decades of working as a certified law clerk and licensed paralegal, I have gained more than just practical experience. I have built a comfort level with theory, knowledge, skills, and resources that I bring to every project. Let's talk about the law clerk POV and what this means for me. Let's look at why working with someone with this level of expertise can save you time and money.
A Foundation Built on Knowledge
Over the years, I have built an extensive library of law clerking and paralegal reference materials and books. These are not just textbooks—I regularly consult them to refresh my memory on legal procedural concepts and definitions. I consult them to ensure accuracy, stay current on legal principles, and double-check details.
With the law and its procedures always evolving, equally important is my commitment to Continuing Professional Development (CPD). Staying up-to-date with training and professional education is crucial to providing high-quality senior-level support.
Mastery of and Confidence with Legal Research and Court Procedures
With over 20 years, I have become deeply comfortable with legal research. Through my knowledge of the various online legal resources, such as Canlii, e-laws, the Regulatory Registry, and Ontario.ca, I have curated a massive collection of bookmarked court websites that I access regularly for relevant Rules, Procedures, Caselaw, and Legislation; I also have court and tribunal information at my fingertips.
I am confident in:
Calling courts efficiently: Knowing what to ask, who to ask, and how to get information quickly
Understanding and navigating procedures: Anticipating what paperwork and visual presentation will likely be accepted or rejected
Solving Problems Independently: Even when presented with unfamiliar areas of law, I can research and find solutions effectively
Speaking Law as a Second Language
Beyond simply knowing legal terminology, I “speak law” fluently. That means understanding the flow of legal processes, court culture, and communication protocols. Whether I am interacting with process servers, lawyers, court staff, or clients, I just know how to navigate conversations and procedural nuances.
This fluency leads to:
Fewer errors
Quicker document turnaround
Less wasted time on clarifications and corrections
How This Saves You Money
Hiring a law clerk with this level of experience means you are paying for and benefiting from:
Efficient, accurate work completed right the first time
Faster research and problem-solving
Reduced risk of rejected filings or missed deadlines, and knowledge of how to start fixing these issues if they do happen.
Confidence that your legal matters are handled with professionalism and care
Why Work With Me? With over 20 years of experience, I know how to navigate motions and applications efficiently and effectively. My expertise ensures that filings are accurate, deadlines are met, and nothing gets overlooked — saving you both time and money.
