Hi Everyone, it's Kristy from Clearly Legal.

I wanted to give you a bird's eye view into how I got started as Clearly Legal.

This shares a glimpse into the projects I have taken on so far to create a name for Clearly Legal senior freelance litigation and generalist law clerk. I saved lawyers time and money (and I still do) by taking on the procedural tasks and behind the scenes prep.

Helping a Retiring Lawyer Close His Office

My first official client that I landed as Clearly Legal involved assisting a lawyer who was retiring and needed to close his office smoothly. This required a thorough cleanup and organization of files, and learning the status of the wills he housed (where they were going, if they could be shredded, etc.) The goal was to ensure nothing was overlooked and that all loose ends were tied up properly.

This task included:

  • Sorting through wills, estate files and correspondence

  • Organizing names, reaching out and ensuring as much current contact info as possible.

  • Communicating with the LSO to ensure he was managing his license correctly

  • Helping him find a lawyer to take on the wills that still needed to be housed.

This kind of administrative support was essential to clear his office with a plan.

Drafting and Finalizing Pleadings

A significant part of the work involved preparing legal pleadings such as Statements of Claim and Statements of Defence. These documents are how litigation starts, and I have worked with countless in my career, and my comfort with them helped launch Clearly Legal and helped create repeat business (yup, I said that).

The process included:

  • Drafting initial versions based on case facts

  • Reviewing and editing for clarity and accuracy

  • Finalizing documents for issuing, service, and filing

By handling these tasks, I helped lawyers focus on strategy and court appearances rather than paperwork. This kind of legal support allowed them to think about law, and not procedure.

Working with Affidavits, Motions and Applications.

Another key area was managing Affidavits of Documents, as well as various Motions and Applications.

These Motions and Applications included:

  • Liens

  • Annual general meetings

  • Litigation guardians

  • Substituted service

  • Summary judgment motions

Each required careful review and preparation to meet court standards and deadlines. I took the reins on all aspects from gathering to drafting to working with Adobe.

Supporting Live Hearings and Caselines

I also gained experience attending live hearings alongside lawyers. This provided insight into courtroom procedures and the importance of timely support during hearings.

Tasks included:

  • Preparing caselines with all relevant documents and evidence

  • Taking notes during hearings for follow-up actions

  • Assisting with last-minute document requests

Being present at hearings helped me understand how organization and preparation directly impact case outcomes.

Saving Time and Money for Lawyers

I have been provided law clerking and legal support that saved lawyers valuable time and reduced costs.
